ROMANS 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Hi, I'm Scott!

Training is a part of life. Whether we're starting a new job, preparing for a marathon, or learning a new piece of technology, we all need training in order to learn and grow.

Bible, theology, and formation are not for the "spiritually elite." Everyone needs training, so all are welcome and encouraged to attend our Training Workshops!

WHAT IS A TRAINING WORKSHOP?

Training Workshops are classes that train everyday disciples in the knowledge and skill for daily Christian living. We have several categories of classes that ground disciples at Grace Community Church in their knowledge of the Bible, the foundational beliefs of the faith, and the expected behaviors of a follower of Christ.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Workshops are offered Wednesday nights at 6:30pm, with each workshop meeting for 10–12 weeks. Participants are divided into small discussion groups at various points during class time to allow for deeper discussion of the material. There is a $10 sign up fee to cover the cost of materials which includes a workbook and other study materials.

WHAT WORKSHOPS ARE BEING OFFERED?

We plan to launch additional workshops this fall! In the meantime, we encourage you to take a look at some of the classes we have in our rotation.

How to Study the Bible

Dusty bibles always lead to dirty lives. The workshop "How to Study the Bible" is an introduction to inductive study of the Bible. Inductive study consists of careful observation of the text leading to sound interpretation and appropriate application. This course aims at giving study skills that are applicable to the entire Bible for your entire life of reading it. We want men and women to be trained up to be presented before God as approved, those who rightly handle the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15).

Story of the Bible

Jesus walked with some disciples on the road to Emmaus, and he “explained to them what was said in ALL the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27). In our study of the Story of the Bible, we will seek to provide all Christians, from new believer to mature Christian, an overview of the entire biblical story that will help you see how it all fits together and how it all points to Jesus! Understanding the story of the Bible will help us gain a biblical worldview, to recognize and reject false worldviews, to rightly understand the gospel, and to keep our focus on Christ.

1 Corinthians 1-9

If you’re part of a church, you’ve probably got some good reasons to be disappointed or frustrated. And if you talk about church with those outside it, you’ll usually find it meets with mild disinterest or real dislike. Churches have the best news on earth and the answers to the world’s problems… and yet often our churches don’t live or work as if those things are true.
We’re too possessive of small things, and too casual about great ones. Too defensive of our interests, and too often ignoring God. And that’s what the church in first-century Corinth was like. It was young, confident, full of life – and just as full of problems. Hear the message that God has for the Church in Corinth – the message that God still has for the church today.

Knowing God's Truth

When you consider theology, you may think of confusing, lofty terminology that only concerns scholars and pastors. But the study of God and his word should be personal, worshipful, and accessible to everyone. In this workshop we will walk through key theological categories – including Scripture, God, man, sin, and the church – helping participants understand these doctrines and apply them in their everyday lives. There is no more important pursuit, no higher calling on your life, no greater purpose, than to know God your creator rightly, be in right relationship with him for eternity, and worship him the way you should.

Defending Our Faith

Christian apologetics is the discipline of offering a defense of and case for, or offer evidence for, the veracity and reliability of the Christian faith. Where evangelism explains the truth of the Gospel,  apologetics defends the truthfulness and reliability of those claims and provides a critique against false claims. Note that Christian apologetics is both defensive (defending the truthfulness and reliability of Scripture) and offensive (attacking the false teaching and unbiblical worldviews). How do we as Christians answer questions such as "How can a good God allow suffering?", "How can I trust the Bible?", "Hasn't science disproved Christianity?", and more!

Apostles Creed

There are many denominations, divisions and theological disputes in the modern church. But despite these types of disunity, there is a common core of belief that all faithful Christians have affirmed throughout history. And for almost two millennia, this core of belief has been summarized in the Apostles’ Creed.

Real-Life Discipleship

Making Disciples is the church's God-given mandate, but too often our churches fall short of their mission. We fill out pews but fail to create committed disciples. Many reasons keep us from making disciples: "that's the job of the professionals," "I've never been discipled myself," "I don't know enough," etc. Real-Life Discipleship is a workshop aimed at training every disciple of Christ to be equipped for the mission of Christ; that is being disciples who make disciples.

Everyday Evangelism

As Christians, we know it is our calling to make disciples and share the Gospel with those around us. But sometimes we feel intimidated and don't know where to start. Join this 6-week evangelism course where you will be able to gain confidence in sharing the Gospel in your every day conversations.

Faith and Work

Work. For some this word represents drudgery and the mundane. For others work is an idol to be served. If you find yourself anywhere on the spectrum from workaholic to weekend warrior, it’s time to bridge the gap between Sunday worship and Monday work. In this workshop we will outline the Biblical story of Work and God’s purposes for work in a way that helps us to make the most of our vocation and to join God in his work in the world. Discover a perspective on work that will transform your workday and make the majority or your waking hours matter, not only for now, but for eternity.

Fear of God

The fear of man happens when we replace God with people. It is the problem that we need  people more than we love them, and the greatest treatment for our fear of man is the fear of the LORD. God must be bigger to us than people are.

Biblical Parenting

This workshop is about how to speak to the heart of your child. The things your child does and says flow from the heart. Luke 6:45 puts it this way: “…out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” For parents with children of any age, this workshop will provide perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child’s heart into the paths of life. This workshop will also turn you back to the life-giving power of the gospel and God’s unfailing Grace in your parenting.

Marriage

Most couples who get married have dreams of what life will be like after the wedding. For many couples, these dreams fall short or are completely shattered. To reach our goals for a loving, caring relationship we must be constantly learning how to understand and relate to each other in a biblical and loving manner. Marital success is not automatic. It is for those who are willing to learn. Fortunately, God has not left us without help. The Scriptures are full of wisdom on how to have a godly and gospel centered marriage. Whether you are newlywed or marital veterans, you can learn and grow from this biblical wisdom.

Biblical Friendship

Friendship is one of the deepest pleasures of life. But in our busy, fast-paced, mobile world, we’ve lost this rich view of friendship and instead settled for shallow acquaintances based on little more than similar tastes or shared interests. Helping us to recapture a vision of true friendship, this workshop will explore God’s design for friendship and what it really looks like in practice―giving us practical advice to cultivate the kinds of true friendships that lead to true and life-giving joy.

Financial Discipleship

In this training workshop you will learn about God's design for True Financial Freedom.  We will learn to not only be excellent stewards with the resources that He has given to us, but we will also discover how to manage our money with simplicity and purpose.  Finally, it is our hope that you will learn to reorient your mindset about money and how it can be used by the Lord for eternal impact in His Kingdom.
